Total Lunar Eclipse of the Harvest Moon

This past Sunday night I enjoyed clear skies here on the Cape to view and photograph the total lunar eclipse. It was spectacular to watch!  I've seen countless eclipses over the years but this one was especially beautiful.  

This is an exposure showing the Moon at mid eclipse floating among the background stars of the constellation Pisces.

Here's a long time exposure lasting 3hrs and 45min.  It shows the entire path of the eclipse over my home.  Before the eclipse on the left, mid eclipse in the middle (turning orange and much dimmer) and then the reverse on the right as the Moon comes out of eclipse and brightens back to normal.

I wanted to share this lovely thank you note I received in the mail today. There's just something special about a hand written note in today's hi-tech world. Awesome! Thank you Kelley & Andrew! I loved capturing your day! :)

I just love shooting these night sky environmental portraits of my wedding clients. The Cape's starry and moonlit sky is so beautiful not to capture. Congratulations to Brittany & Roger who tied the knot on Saturday!!!

Labor Day Aurora

The northern lights made another beautiful appearance in the night skies above Cape Cod.  This was taken on Labor Day night from Pleasant Lake in Harwich.

Starry Night at Stage Harbor Lighthouse

This is a roughly 180° panorama of the Milky Way and night sky from Stage Harbor Lighthouse in Chatham.  The bright light on the left horizon is Chatham Lighthouse. Can you find the Andromeda Galaxy?
