NYC Solar Eclipse

I'm back from a one night trip to NYC where I captured the partially eclipsed sun rising behind the Empire State Building in New York City on the morning of November 3, 2013.  It was a great trip, almost 600 miles round trip and 10 hours of driving to capture that split second in time when the eclipsed Sun lined up with one of the most iconic buildings in the world.

The image appeared as NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) for November 4, 2013.

Canon USA also published it on their official Facebook page as the cover photo of the week for Nov 5-12, 2013!

National Geographic published it on their website blog!

  1. Chris, where we're you when you took this picture and what lens did you use?

    1. I was in NJ about 8 miles away. I used a Canon 400mm f/5.6L on a Canon 40D.
