Finalist in PPA Front Cover Contest!!!

Hi all,

I was just notified that a wedding image I submitted to the annual PPA (Professional Photographers of America) front cover photo contest has been selected as a finalist image!!!

Only 40 images made the cut out of 50,000 submissions by 5000 photographers! How cool is that!!! The winning image is suppose to be picked sometime later this year. Keep your fingers crossed! :-)

Marine One & Air Force One

This afternoon, President Obama and the First Family departed the Cape after a week long stay over on Martha's Vineyard. Always wanting to capture some neat images of Air Force One, I ventured back to Otis Air National Guard Base. Unfortunately, I was not quite as successful as last week in capturing the President's plane. Several factors came into play.... one, I guessed wrong on which way the plane was going to take off... almost always, jets at Otis take off to the northwest.... so....... I setup at the northwest side of the base. Well, wouldn't you know it, they took off to the southeast! Ha!! Second, the weather and visibility was pretty bad with a light fog and only about a 100ft ceiling.... very tough conditions for photographing aircraft in flight!

On the upside, I was able to capture a pretty good image of Obama arriving on Marine One.

Hopefully, the President will visit the Cape again in the future and I can try some more. :-)

The Cape says goodbye to Teddy

This afternoon there was an amazing sight on Cape Cod. Thousands of Cape Codders, including myself, lined the roads to say goodbye to the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy. He was transported from the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport to the JFK library in Boston. I decided to pull off the mid-Cape highway to take of few photos of this historic event.

Teddy symbolized the Kennedy dynasty and the era of Camelot. While everyone may not agree will his policies, he truly cared about the people he served and was always willing to try and work with the opposite party to pass legislation to move this country forward. He served the residents of Massachusetts in the US Senate for 47 years!

He will be missed not only by his fellow Cape Codders but also by the people of Massachusetts and countless citizens around our great country.

Below are some of the photographs I took of people lining the side of Route 6. The last photo shows Patrick Kennedy riding with his father's flag covered casket. Patrick is also the nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy.

Double wedding on Sandy Neck!

Here's one of my favorite shots from a recent double wedding I did out on Sandy Neck. While 90% of my work is done with 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses, I'm also having tons of fun with a 15mm ultra wide 'fisheye' lens. This lens offers a whopping 180° view and can create some very unique and stunning photographs. I thought this group shot of the wedding party on the beach was a great opportunity to use the specialty lens. Great fun!!! Congratulations Kari & Jeff and Lisa & Josh. You guys were so much fun to work with! :-)

Air Force One lands on the Cape

As most everyone knows by now, President Obama and the first family are vacationing on Martha's Vineyard this coming week and arrived today.

Since the airport on Martha's Vineyard does not have a long enough airstrip to handle the landing of a 747 aircraft, the president and Air Force One landed this afternoon at Otis Air National Guard Base here on the Cape where they have multiple 10,000ft runways. They would then fly by helicopter on Marine One over to the Vineyard. Unfortunately, the base was under very tight security during his arrival and closed to all public visitors with only the press being allowed access.... a real bummer for me... but fully understood!

So, wanting to try and get a good photo of the plane landing, I needed to get as close as possible to the runway but still be on public land. I Google Earth'd the base and found that if I drove to the Heritage Park baseball fields in Sandwich off Rte 130, it would get me 3950ft away. Darn close!! In the end, it worked out pretty well. I was able to capture this beautiful aircraft just above the distant tree line and seconds before it touched down. All in all, a fun photo adventure! :-)

I hope the first family enjoys the Vineyard and visiting this beautiful part of the country.

Jenna & Ivan - Wychmere Harbor Club

Hey all,

Here are some shots from Jenna & Ivan's wedding on June 28, 2009. Although currently living in NYC, Jenna is originally from the Cape and Ivan is from Valencia, Spain.

We started the day at Jenna's parents home in Harwich where we captured some great shots, including ones on a tree swing. The ceremony was at Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich. After the ceremony, we traveled down to Saquatucket Harbor where Jenna, Ivan and the wedding party and I jumped onto a boat owned by a friend of Jenna's father. The cruise over to Wychmere Harbor offered tons of great photos opportunities! So much fun!! I decided to shoot with the 15mm fisheye lens on the 5D to capture the expansive views we had from the boat. The arrival at Wychmere's dock was so sweet with all their friends and family looking on cheering and clapping.

Thank you to my awesome clients and also to the wonderful Karen Rood at Wychmere! :-) You guys are awesome!

Chrissy & Ned - Beach House at Chatham Bars Inn

Chrissy & Ned were married on June 26, 2009 at the always beautiful Chatham Bars Inn. Their ceremony was in the Boat House overlooking the waters of Chatham Harbor while the reception filled up the Beach House next door. Clarissa at CBI did an amazing job as usual!

Here's just a sample of some of my favorite images from their day. I thought the custom made M&M's were a nice touch. Congratulations guys and thank you for allowing me to be a part of your day!!!! :-)
